Workshops & Programmes

Academic Success Programmes

This academic year (2022/2023) we offer 2 Academic Success Programmes

  1. Essential Success Skills Programme
  2. Success in Times of Stress: Strengthen your Resilience and Succeed Academically

These programmes aim at equipping students from all faculties and degree years with skills to help them succeed academically and beyond. You can attend 1 workshop, or several workshops, or you can choose to complete a whole programme (each programme includes from 4 to 5 workshops). If you choose to complete the whole programme you will receive a certificate of completion of the said programme.

Completing both programmes will make you eligible to become a Student Mentor and work to support your peers’ success.

You can attend the workshops in the format of your preference (Online or On-campus). Generally, on-campus sessions are held at the Student HUB from 2:00 pm. Whereas online sessions are held via Microsoft Teams on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:30 pm.

Programme One: Essential Success Skills

This programme includes 5 workshops that offer basic success skills that are essential for your academic success. You can choose to attend any one of these workshops or all of them. Each workshop will be offered in both online live formats, and on-campus face to face format.

The workshops offered under this programme are

  • Academic Success Opening Workshop. Network, plan your Year, and have fun! (Outdoor Event)
  1. Optimise your Brain’s Capacity- Effective Study Techniques (Online OR On Campus)
  2. Effective Time Management (Online OR On Campus)
  3. Decision Making (Online OR On Campus)
  4. Mindset & Achievement (Online OR On Campus)
  5. Learn to Use Notion: Your All in One Workspace (On Campus)

Programme Two: Success in Times of Stress

This programme aims at supporting you in developing one of the most important success skills; “resilience”. Resilience is the ability to come out of set-backs and stressful situations stronger and more-able. It can also mean not getting stuck in emotional tension in the first place. The programme includes 6 sessions. You can attend any of the sessions, however we recommend you attend the whole programme for maximum benefits.

The programme is offered in online format (Only).

The programme includes the following workshops:

  1. Success in Times of Stress: Introduction to Resilience & Self Awareness
  2. Success in Times of Stress: My strengths and Aptitudes
  3. Success in Times of Stress: My thoughts and Emotions
  4. Success in Times of Stress: My Personality Traits
  5. Success in Times of Stress: Emotional Intelligence
  6. Building Your Support Network

Overview

We asked students who attended our Workshops to tell us what was helpful about the session and this is some of what they shared with us

The safe environment where you are not to be judged and have the ability to communicate your views openly. Also, hearing the stories of the other group members, allows the person to reflect on their own life and find out things they haven't noticed about themselves before.
The overall fun and nurturing atmosphere; even as (grown-up) students, following a long day at university, the workshops provided solace from the responsibilities of life through the activities conducted throughout the sessions.
After attending the workshops, I personally seem to be more understanding of the things that could better both the academic and well-being aspects of my life
