The Faculty of Law in the British University held the second seminar of the “Legal Culture Series” on Sunday 20 November under the title of “The Rule of State Council in the Protection of Rights and Freedoms”. The main talk in the seminar was given by Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Kamal EL Din Mounir Vice President of the State Council and Director of the Center for Judicial Studies and Researches with the presence of Prof. Dr. Hassan Abdel-Hamid the Dean, Students, and Faculty members. Chancellor Mohammed started the seminar by introducing the State Council, and the importance of its role in the Egyptian society. The Chancellor explained in a simplified manner the litigation procedures before the Council, stressing the smoothness of the procedures and its affordability which makes it accessible to all citizens. Moreover, the Chancellor explained the difference between ordinary courts, administrative courts, military courts, and the Supreme Constitutional Court in light of the Egyptian constitution. Furthermore, the difference between the departments of the State Council and the role of each department in the protection of rights and freedoms was addressed. The discussion spanned across various issues that included freedom of opinion and expression, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, and the right to education which were addressed by the State Council in a number of its important decisions that affected the exercise of such freedoms in the Egyptian society. Captivated by the issues being discussed the audience contributed heavily to the discussion. After concluding the seminar, Prof. Dr. / Hassan Abdel Hamid met with Chancellor Dr. / Mohammad Kamal to discuss the possible aspects of cooperation between the State Council and the Faculty that would further enhance the experience and knowledge of both students and faculty members.
