Obituary

Obituary for Mr. Mohamed Farid Khamis, BUE’s Founder and Chairman of its Board of Trustees

With deep sorrow and profound grief, we announce that Mr. Mohamed Farid Khamis passed away earlier this afternoon (Saturday 19 September, 2020) in hospital in the USA with all his family surrounding him after a long battle with illness. The BUE has lost its founder, visionary and the Chairman of its Board of Trustees. Mr. Mohamed Farid Khamis was:

* An Egyptian industrialist, who believed that people are the basis for the emergence of any nation and the advancement of societies through the commitment to distinguished sciences and advanced scientific research.

* He strongly believed in philanthropy; the importance of the social responsibilities and impacts of investment capitals
* He was described by many as “Talaat Harb of Egypt” and the Pioneer of the Egyptian industries.
* Married has two daughters (Yasmine and Farida), a son (Mohamed), and three grandchildren (Omar, Malak and Osama).

Degrees

1. Bachelor of Commerce, Ain Shams University, 1961.
2. Master’s in Industrial Costs, and Studies in Textile Industry.
3. Honorary Doctorate from Loughborough University, UK, 2008.
4. Awarded the highest Belgian medal in May 2008, by the Crown Prince of Belgium at the time (
currently King of the Belgians)

Life Accomplishments

Founder of (Orientals) Group, an integrated group working in the field of textiles and petrochemicals, it includes several companies, working in the manufacturing of carpets, fibers, spinning, petrochemicals, in addition to marketing the related products locally and internationally. This includes several areas, such as:
Tourism, real estate, furniture, agricultural industries, petrochemicals, in addition to international trade.

The group includes companies:
Oriental weavers for carpets, MAC, Oriental Weavers International, Oriental Weavers for Urban Development, Orientals for Tourism Development, Orientals for Agricultural Development, Orientals for Industrial Projects, AFCO (fiber products), Egyptian Propylene and Polypropylene, Tenth of Ramadan for Development and Educational Services. (Oriental Weavers) products always win the best in the world, in Hannover, Germany, and Atlanta, USA, amid wide international recognitions.

Contributions to public work:
* Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the British University in Egypt.
* Founder of Al Shorouk Academy.
* Chairman of the Egyptian Committee for the International Chamber of Commerce.
* Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Federation of Investors Associations and Institutions.
* Former Chairman of the Industry, Energy and Transportation Committee of the Shura Council.
* Former President of the Federation of Egyptian Industries.
* President of the Arab Council for Green Economy.
* Member of the Supreme Investment Council, headed by the President of the Republic.

UK Partners

Academic Partnership between London South Bank University and the British University in Egypt

 

London South Bank University (LSBU) and The British University in Egypt (BUE) are delighted to announce their in principle agreement to form a major new partnership in British-Egyptian Higher Education, Research and Enterprise. This will include validation of graduate and undergraduate programmes in Business, Economics, and Political Science and the new programme in Mass Communication, together with those in Engineering and Informatics and Computer Science, for students joining the BUE from September 2014 onwards, as well as for those entering its new programme in Construction Engineering and Management.

Qualified Students, of both institutions, might be eligible for study abroad and/or exchange programmes at the partner University. In addition, staff exchanges enhancing teaching and mutual research collaborations between both institutions will be encouraged. A fundamental aspect of the collaboration will be joint international Research and Enterprise projects to address global issues with a strong focus on sustainability, energy and related matters.

Queen Margaret University

Establishing a collaborative agreement in Egypt to develop a Nursing College with Queen Margaret University in Scotland (QMU) follows as a result of Dr. Akef Maghrabi – Chairman, Magrabi Group and Al Noor Magrabi Foundation – approaching QMU to be a partner in developing a Nursing Faculty within the British University in Egypt (BUE).

The overall aim of this programme is to enable undergraduate nurses to develop intellectual, professional and personal skills, required to promote health, prevent illness and provide care nationally and internationally.The graduate will contribute to the development of the profession through leadership, evidence based practice and the transfer of knowledge. During this process the students will achieve the competencies/outcomes required by current Nursing Sector at the Supreme Council of Universities and the Ministry of Health as well as the quality assurance requirements of the BUE and QMU.

Arrangements for quality assurance of the award of BSc (Hons) Nursing from QMU are set out in the Memorandum of Agreement for the partnership.

A Joint Board of Studies, Programme Committee and Student-Staff Committee will operate for the Programme in accordance with QMU requirements.

A Joint Board of Examiners, Convened by the Head of Subject, Nursing, QMU, will consider all student results and make recommendations on progression and award to the Senate of QMU and the Senate of BUE. The Joint Board of Examiners acts with delegated authority on behalf of the QMU Senate and BUE Senate. It will operate in accordance with the regulations of the QMU Quality.

An annual report and action plan will be prepared by the programme team for consideration by the Joint Board of Studies, School Academic Board at QMU and BUE Senate according to the guidelines published

An annual monitoring process is also carried out by the profession’s regulatory body in Egypt.
