The faculty of law prepared its first promotion for a simulation of the United NationsSecurity Council as a part of the curriculum of the “International Organisations” module. Thesimulation was mainly held on two phases. The first Phase consisted of three tutorials duringwhich the teaching assistants prepared the students/delegates for the second phase which isthe simulation itself that was held in one lecture. During the preparation phase, rules ofprocedures of the Security Council and its flow of debate were discussed during the first andsecond tutorial. As for the third tutorial, a mini simulation was held as a rehearsal on themain simulation. Based on the submitted position papers by each delegate and student’sperformance during the mini simulation, the module team chose the final list of students toparticipate in the simulation to be held in the lecture.On the lecture day, the simulation took place for five hours interrupted by a coffee break.The situation in Syria and the air strikes occurring were topic of the agenda adopted by thedelegates. Not only that the member states of the real UNSC were represented in thesimulation but also many observers among them the “Arab Republic of Syria” itself. Thesimulation was completely moderated by law students for they have been delegates ofstates, Dais members, pagers and organizers of the lecture. The UNSC session ended by thenon-adoption of any resolutions for the drafted resolution did not obtain enough votes. Atthe end of the day, one of the students gave a speech where he thanked the module teamfor the effort made during the preparation phase. Also, Professor “Hassan Abdel Hamid”,dean of the faculty of law, rewarded nine students by different titles among them “BestDelegate”, “Best Delegation” and “Best Point of order maker” based on their colleagues’votes.
