The British University in Egypt (BUE) is proud to announce that Professor Guy Daly, currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education and Students, at Coventry University, UK has been appointed as the BUE’s inaugural Provost.
The appointment of Professor Daly comes as a crucial part of the transformation plan led by the Chair and the Board of Trustees, Ms Farida Khamis, to put in place a leadership team that can overhaul the ethos of the university and turn it into a revered place of learning – one that not only offers sterling academic experiences, but that can also produce the leaders of tomorrow.
Professor Daly has been a major part of the leadership of Coventry University for many years. Latterly, as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education and Students, where he led the development of the educational experience across the whole of the Coventry University Group
He first joined Coventry University in 2004 as Associate Dean in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and was acting Dean in 2010. He left in late 2010 but re-joined Coventry in 2013 as Executive Dean and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Health and Life Sciences prior to taking up the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education and Students in 2019.
Professor Daly – who is an experienced researcher and has overseen projects valued at £10 million, produced four books and over 100 papers and reports – is a social policy academic, and his research interests are in health policy, social care, housing policy, local government, and the governance of public services generally. He is also a Non-Executive Director of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
Professor Daly has also been a member of various national UK and local groups and bodies including Executive Member (International/Global) of Council of Deans of Health (affiliated to Universities UK), West Midlands Clinical Senate, West Midlands Combined Authority Wellbeing Board, Coventry Health and Wellbeing Board, and He was a member of the Coventry and Warwickshire Sustainability Transformation Partnership (STP) Better Health – Better Care – Better Value Board and chaired its Clinical Design Authority Board.
As a renowned expert in the learning experience, Professor Daly has also published articles about the “community first” approach to teaching and learning that he feels will enhance the future of the overall learning experience for students.
Recently, he has been developing partnerships with Indonesia’s government and universities, working closely with Professor Ali Ghufron Mukti – Director General in the Government of Indonesia – assisting with the development and evaluation of Indonesia’s recently introduced social insurance based universal health service. He is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta and a member of the editorial board of the Indonesian Journal of Healthcare Research.

In his new position, Professor Daly – as an integral member of the leadership team – will play a central role in realising the transformation programme of the University. He will also be a critical contributor to the decision-making processes and will be a key representative of the Vice-Chancellor and the University as a whole to the external community, both nationally and internationally.
Professor Daly will be joining the British University in Egypt by end of April, to continue strengthening the university’s teaching, learning, research and student experience.
