The British University in Egypt (BUE) consolidated its working relationship with the Embassy of Ireland in Cairo by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Wednesday 17th November 2021 in the presence of H.E. Ambassador Seán O’Regan, Irish Ambassador to Egypt, the Irish Embassy Consul Mr. Cathal O’Hagan and BUE President & Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohamed Loutfi.
Also in attendance, was Professor Shadia Fahim, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Professor Yehia Bahei-El-Din, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President for Research and Enterprise, Professor Leslie Croxford, Senior Vice President, H. E. Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, H.E. Ambassador Aly Hefny, Mr. John Duffy, BUE Registrar, along with Professor Omar Karam, Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Science, and Professor Adel Saleh, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Communications and Mass Media.
The university also took the opportunity to inaugurate the Faculty of Arts and Humanities’ recently established the Research Centre for Irish Studies (RCIS). Professor Shadia Fahim, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, highlighted the key role the RCIS plays in creating a strong link between the BUE and the vast network of Irish Studies Centres in Europe, North America, Australia and South East Asia.
Additionally, Professor Loutfi’s welcoming address focused on the significance of British-Irish relations and future plans for collaboration with the Embassy of Ireland in areas of industry, enterprise, cultural exchange and the promotion of the arts and humanities and social sciences.
