Assistant Lecturer Amal Amal Ahmed Abdel Ghani

I worked as an English language Instructor at Sadat Academy for Language Sciences (1997-2004). I taught a variety of general English Courses: a Writing Course, TOFEL preparation and a reading Course besides ESP courses (Business English). Then, I was promoted to be second year Business English coordinator who was responsible for preparing the weekly plan, following up on instructor teaching progression in the three branches of the Academy: Cairo, Alexandria and Dekrnes. My task also included developing supplementary material relevant to the intended learning outcomes of the Course as well as training new staff members to teach Business English effectively. My responsibilities were not limited to the previous duties but extended to preparing follow-up quizzes, mid-term and final exams.  Later, in 2005, I joined ATS (Arabic and Translation Studies Division) at AUC as a translation instructor. I taught mainly Contrastive Analysis and Translation Linguistics. The first course was primarily addressing the syntactic similarities and differences between Arabic and English, whereas, the second focused on solving the problems of Linguistic transfer from one language into the other on various linguistic levels be it lexical, syntactic, or stylistic ones. I acted as a member in the Curriculum Development group that compiled materials and working sheets for the courses. My name was listed as a contributor in the list of authors’ names of Contrastive Analysis Student Handbook and Teacher’s manual (Fall 2008-2009).  Finally, I worked at BUE as a fulltime English Language Instructor in 2010 teaching Advanced, Advanced Writing Courses and English for Academic purposes. I took part as a core group team member in developing material for the Flipped approach in Advanced module. Besides teaching, I am currently holding the position of the BUE Writing Centre Coordinator in the English Department. The Centre is concerned with enhancing the academic writing skills of the university students through offering various services whether online or face-to-face sessions.
