The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at The British University in Egypt (BUE) was selected through an open tender in December, 2017 by UNHCR and the British Council, UK as a partner to conduct an international research consultancy on their behalf in the MENA region on the Perceptions of Young Adult Syrian Refugees on Higher Education in Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq. The total funding of the research consultancy is US$ 52,000. The research team collected data and sample responses from focus groups in Lebanon and Jordan. The results were compiled into two reports which were reviewed by UNHCR. The research team have completed phase one of the consultancy (Lebanon and Jordan) and the results were successfully shared at the Going Global 2018 Conference organized by the British Council, UK which was held in Malaysia from 2-4 May, 2018. The second phase of the report has also been completed and the report is currently under review. The results of this phase are expected to be shared in a closed European Commission meeting in Brussels in November, 2018. This leaves the research team with the task of completing a final comparative report on the perceptions and provisions on higher education in the MENA region.

Professional Development Day Saturday 4th March, 2017
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Department of English Language and Literature, in cooperation with NileTESOL hosted and participated in a Professional Development Event on Saturday, 4th March 2017. The title of the event was “Enhancing Teachers’ Best Practice and Empowering the Learner”, with the objective of empowering teachers of English as a Foreign Language through professional assistance.
Four presenters delivered workshops on this day:
1. Designing Different Types of Assessment by Dr. Omnia El Kommos.
2. Making Learning Personalized and Relevant by Ms. Eman Samir.
3. Foreign Language Anxiety in the Egyptian ESL Classroom: Perceptions, Attitudes, and Solutions by Ms. Shaden Samir Attia.
4. Motivation and Academic Success in EAP by Ms. Mariam Rayan.
The event was attended by teachers from different backgrounds and institutions, including governmental and private universities, language centres and schools.

International Peer Review Week 14th September 2017

In recognition of the key role played by Peer Review in the process of research publication and the importance of transparency in the process, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities held an awareness Seminar titled “Transparency in Peer Review and High Impact Research.” Prof. Shadia Fahim facilitated the global event and Prof. Yehia Bahie El Din and Prof. Eman El Mahalawy took part in the seminar. The seminar was video recorded and shared with the wider global community.

International Project Week at Hochschule Nordhausen – Germany

Prof. Shadia Fahim – Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities initiated the contact between Dr. Ayman Mohamed Salaheldin and Hochschule Nordhausen in Germany through the NiceNetwork (New Initiatives and Challenges in Europe). The NiceNetwork, established in 1992 in France, is a network comprising of 45 Higher Education Institutions from 29 countries across Europe, Australia, Asia and the Middle East. Prof. Fahim is the BUE representative in the NiceNetwork.
Hochschule Nordhausen, has offered to cover the travel expenses and accommodation costs related to Dr. Ayman’s teaching activities from 14.05.2017 to 19.05.2017 as there is no ERASMUS+ Inter-Institutional-Agreement between BUE and Nordhausen. The name of the project which will be shared by Dr. Ayman in Germany is: “Video Presentation Techniques for Demonstrating the Shape, Functionality and Sustainability Studies of Technical Products.”

The visit of Prof. Waheeda Khan, the Dean of Faculty of Behavioral Sciences- SGT University, India.
Prof. Waheeda Khan, the Dean of Faculty of Behavioral Sciences- SGT University, India, presented a lecture titled “The Recent Trends in Positive Psychology: Cross cultural Perspective”. The visit took place on Tuesday, November 15th, 2016. Prof. Klan has over 24 years of experience in teaching, research and clinical practice. She has been a visiting professor in many countries including: USA (Universities of New York, Minnesota, San Francisco & Portland), Canada, UK (Universities of Plymouth, Exeter & Open), China, Australia, Sweden, France, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Prof. Shadia Fahim Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the BUE and Prof. Khan discussed several issues including the possible aspects of collaboration in research, teaching and community service.
