Strategic Plan
The University Plan covers the primary activities of Learning and Teaching, Research and Enterprise and Community Services, together with important connecting strategies for Internationalization and Campus Developments. The University Plan establishes the high level objectives for the Institution, against which supporting activities, such as HR, Library and IT plans can be aligned and the necessary resource and infrastructural requirements identified to ensure success.

Specific Strategies
The BUE overall strategic trends are broken down into a number of sector specific strategies.
1. Internationalisation Strategy
Internationalisation permeates all our activities and will be taken forward through achieving our strategic and enabling objectives. We will recruit more international staff and attract others to visit the BUE for short periods; establish more international partnerships that will include staff and student exchanges; seek to enrol more international students to diversify the student perspective and provide a broader student experience; and ensure that our curricula, research and facilities are international in standard.
2. Research Strategy
University academics are currently pursuing research in a broad range of areas across all Faculties. This is strongly encouraged by the University. There are key research areas aligned with our stated mission and the University wishes to see critical mass established (or existing critical mass maintained) in these key areas. Therefore, these areas will be prioritised for support with the intention that they will grow as existing research centres or become new research centres.
Existing Research Centres:
- Centre for Theoretical Physics
- Centre for Advanced Materials
- Centre for Renewable Energy
- Centre for Sustainability and Future Studies
- Centre of Excellence In Preventive Maintenance (CPM)
- Centre for Advanced Informatics and Business Intelligence (CAIBI)
- Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD)
Key research areas that will be encouraged to grow into research centres include the following:
- Information Technologies
- Business, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship
- Arab and Islamic Studies
3. Teaching and Learning Strategy
Enhancing the quality of the student experience is a primary goal of the BUE that will help raise our profile as a university of high quality and standards. There are several facets to achieving this status: attracting the highest quality students; attracting a preponderance of research – active academic staff capable of delivering UK higher education in accord with the British ethos and standards; developing effective, communicative and innovative teaching; providing a learning environment (academic, pastoral and social) that stimulates our students to become independent learners and to realise their potential, and which encourages research and academic development. The new Library, due for completion by 2014/15, will play a major role in enhancing the experience for both students and staff. The student learning environment will be complemented by an improved IT infrastructure, together with support through implementation of Library, IT and e-Learning strategies, as well as learner support. Estates, human resource and financial planning will underpin the continual improvement of the academic environment. Our academic programmes will continue to be of the highest quality and standards.

4. Community Services and Enterprise Strategy
Building on the current activities of the Centre for Community and Consulting Services, the broad strategic objective of the University is to become a leading institution in Egypt for the provision of knowledge transfer in order to advance industry, the professions and society.
Within this broad strategy, the BUE will develop a specialism in working with new and established SMEs (small and medium size enterprises) using the expertise of both the students and the staff by:
- Promoting enterprise (i.e. the ability to innovate, recognise and create opportunities, work in a team, take risks and respond to challenges).
- Assisting new and existing entrepreneurs to launch and grow their own ventures, whether social or business enterprises.
- Working with stakeholders and British businesses in Egypt, often with reference to curriculum and programme development, to advance opportunities for students and graduates, fund professorships and sponsor facilities, etc.
5. Information Technology Strategy 2012 to 2015
The role of the IT Strategy is to support the University Plan in meeting its overall objectives over the period from 2012 to 2015. This University Plan for teaching and learning, for research and for the development of its administration will ask questions of IT. The IT Strategy supports the aims of these plans and plays its part in helping to deliver them. The Strategy was put together following widespread discussions within the University involving the senior officers of the University, Deans and Heads of Departments, academic staff and students.
The Strategy makes 20 recommendations which are listed in section 10 of the Strategy. click here to view IT Strategy.
